BYOMD Program

Bring your own device Year 2 to 12

BYOD (an acronym for ‘bring your own device’) offers many benefits to our students. Not only does it allow them to access high-quality learning tools and digital texts as part of learning, but it also means they can work seamlessly between home and school.

At BTAC, we ask that students from Year 2 to Year 12 bring their own devices to school each day. Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 have access to school-owned devices when needed. All students are provided with high-speed, filtered internet while at school.

Safe and respectful ICT use and engagement

All students and parents are expected to sign an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) User Agreement when they start at BTAC. This agreement outlines our responsibilities as a college, students and parents to ensure safe, respectful use and engagement with ICT.

Don’t forget a sturdy case! As well as protecting the device from damage, a unique case can help students easily recognise it.

FAQs - BYOD Program

This depends on their year level. See the table below:

Year level

Device required

Year 2 to Year 4

Apple iPad of 32gb or more

Year 5 to Year 12

Mac or Windows laptop (Windows preferred)

The iPads used by students in Years 2 to 4 must be a current generation Apple iPad of 32GB. iPad Minis or older generation models can make it more difficult to download and use the apps in the classroom.

Microsoft Intune (a cloud-based management solution that lets us control both BOYD and corporate devices) is required so we can automatically push apps and settings to student iPads.

You can do this by downloading it from the Company Portal on the App Store and signing in with your child’s email address and password.

Students in Years 5 to 12 can choose either a Windows or Mac laptop.  All students must use either Windows 10 or 11 or macOS that has been updated within the last 12 months. Our preferred supplier is JB-Hi-Fi.

Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud software can be accessed for free with a current enrolment. It will be discontinued if a student leaves the school.

If you want any additional information on these specifications or have a technical question, please contact our ICT team at [email protected]

One accessory we require you buy alongside your child’s device is a case to protect it from damage. Any further customisation items are up to you.

We recommend you insure your device at the time of purchase.  Your device may be covered under a home contents policy, or you may choose to purchase a specific accidental loss and damage policy. In line with most other schools, we cannot accept any responsibility for devices damaged or stolen while on campus or in transit.

Once you’ve purchased your device, it’s easy to set it up for use at school. Simply visit JBeducation and enter the school code: BishopBYOD

IT Support is available for students to troubleshoot their devices. However, students are responsible for the backup and protection of their data in line with the Acceptable Use Policy.
