Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College Shines at the Young Business Minds Awards Gala!
Last night, the Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College community came together for a truly memorable evening at the Young Business Minds Awards Gala in Newcastle. Our talented students from Years 5 to 9 showcased their creativity and determination, competing in the fiercely contested Secondary Design and Technology and Primary Sustainability categories. The atmosphere was electric, and our students made their mark with some incredible achievements.
We are thrilled to celebrate Josh, a Year 9 student, who won first place in the Secondary Design and Technology category for his innovative Land Mine Drone project. This extraordinary accomplishment highlights his hard work, ingenuity, and dedication to solving real-world problems. Our Year 8 team—Mya W., Jade A., Amelia R., Georgia Q., and Emilee F.—also deserves special recognition for their Eco Study Pod project, which earned an honorable mention. Their dedication and creative approach captured the attention of the judges and made us all incredibly proud.
In the Primary Sustainability category, our Year 5 and 6 Biraban Wellbeing Group shone brightly, taking home second place for their Vibe and Thrive Café initiative. This project is more than just a concept; it represents our students’ deep commitment to making a positive impact in their community. The group has already raised $686.50 to support significant mental health causes, demonstrating a beautiful, circular approach to well-being and the power of gratitude.
We are also delighted to celebrate Mrs. Gurr, who earned second place in the Innovative Teaching category for her exceptional R.E.A.L Experiences. Her passion for creating engaging and meaningful educational opportunities is an inspiration to both students and fellow educators.
These remarkable achievements are a testament to the hard work and dedication of not only our students but also the incredible staff members who support and guide them. A heartfelt thank you goes to Mrs. Vanessa Manewell, whose leadership and enthusiasm have been instrumental in the success of our Biraban Wellbeing Group, and to Lesley Kensitt for her exceptional organizational support behind the scenes.
The love, care, and support shown by our Bishop Tyrrell community last night were heart-warming. It’s events like this that highlight our “village” approach to education, where students are uplifted and encouraged to thrive. Congratulations to everyone who participated—you’ve made our college incredibly proud!
