Sport at Bishop Tyrrell goes beyond physical fitness. It nurtures confidence, spirit, teamwork and leadership, while supporting cognitive and motor development. It’s also a fun way for students to connect with peers, challenge themselves and celebrate achievement together.
We encourage every student to participate, discover what they enjoy, and pursue their personal best. From weekly timetabled lessons to carnivals, team representation, club competitions and presentation events, there’s a pathway for every interest and ability. Through our membership in the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Sports Association, students who excel in other sports not offered at school can also pursue representative honours at the state level.
From Kindergarten to Year 4, students participate in weekly sports lessons with teachers and external providers. Sports activities may include:
Students from Years 2 to 4 represent the College as part of the Hunter Region Independent Schools Association in the following:

Students in Years 5 to 12 may have the opportunity to represent the College in the following sports:
Our College carnivals celebrate participation, teamwork and school spirit, giving students the opportunity to challenge themselves, have fun, and cheer on their peers.
Swimming and Athletics: Events are organised into three age-appropriate groups — Kindergarten to Year 1, Years 2–6, and Years 7–12 — ensuring all students can take part, enjoy the experience, and develop their skills.
Cross Country: Throughout the year, students participate in cross-country events, building endurance, perseverance, and a sense of achievement across all year levels.
These carnivals are not just about competition. They’re vibrant community events where every student is encouraged to try their best, celebrate others’ achievements, and contribute to the College spirit.
