Junior School Sport
From Kindergarten to Year 4, students participate in weekly sports lessons with teachers and external providers. Sports activities may include:
- Kindergarten – Year 1: Focus on foundational movement, coordination, and fun team games
- Years 2–4: Athletics and Cross Country Carnival preparation, team sports including soccer, touch football, basketball and netball, as well as swimming, dance, gymnastics and karate
Junior School Representative Sport
Students from Years 2 to 4 represent the College as part of the Hunter Region Independent Schools Association in the following:
- Athletics
- Cross country
- Swimming
Middle and Senior School Sport
Students in Years 5 – 10 participate in weekly sporting lessons with a specialist teacher. At times, external providers are engaged to provide programs in such sports as Volleyball, Touch Football, Tennis and more.
During sporting lessons, students have the autonomy to make choices about what they wish to engage with. College sport is run by staff, focusing on a variety of team sports.
Additional off-site opportunities are provided to students, such as:
- Ice Skating
- Rock Climbing
- Swimming
- Water Polo
- Revolution Indoor
- Sports and more.
Middle and Senior School Representative Sport
Students in Years 5 to 12 may have the opportunity to represent the College in the following sports:

Blue Jay Sporting Clubs
Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College has a close relationship with the Bluejays Basketball Club and the Fletcher Bluejays Netball Club. Both of these teams compete in Newcastle-based competitions and conduct their training on College grounds.
