Year 12 test their knowledge to fight for a sustainable ocean

This year’s annual Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College Fundraiser Trivia Night hosted by Year 12 donated $6,500 to Sea Sheppard at yesterday's Speech Day ceremony in a quest to help protect our oceans.

“Each year Bishop Tyrrell students of Year 12 are responsible for selecting a charity of their choice to lead fundraisers in Bishop Tyrrell’s learning community,” said Mr. Mitchell Cummings, Head of Years 10-12.

“Students wanted to do something that would contribute to sustainable oceans.

“It is important for students to invest time and energy in causes greater than just themselves and their immediate spheres.

"Planning, fundraising, and working hard for something or someone else is a really valuable exercise that we really want to instill in our Senior Students.

"It helps them develop leadership qualities and helps model to the rest of our student community that there are things going on in the world that deserve our time and attention," Mr. Cummings said.

Students, teachers, and families gathered earlier this year for an ocean-themed Trivia Night hosted by Year 12 to help raise funds and awareness for Sea Sheppard.

Sea Shepard’s conservation actions aim to safeguard the biodiversity of our delicately-balanced marine ecosystems.

"A huge thank you to our College Community for your donations and to my cohort for choosing to support Sea Sheppard in such a special way," said Ms. Charlotte Eve and Mr. Samuel Ostrowski, School Captains of Year 12 2021.
