Starting school for the first time is a monumental occasion in a child’s life. While many young children will be excited about this new adventure, others might be feeling a little nervous.
To smooth the transition into Primary School, Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College conducted a series of Orientation Day sessions earlier this term. Next year’s Kindergarten students, together with their parents, got a taste of what to expect from ‘big school’.
This year, three sessions were held and were targeted at both parents and new students. At each of the sessions, different topics were covered addressing issues affecting parents and providing information to help them ease their child into Kindergarten. While parents listened to these presentations, the children were engaged in a variety of colourful and interactive activities.
“The three sessions were very different experiences, felt very personal and highlighted Bishop Tyrrell’s holistic approach to education,” said one parent.
“The College does not hide anything, parents have the opportunity to meet all the executive staff, the Primary staff members and Kindergarten teachers for 2017. Having the opportunity to speak with current Kindergarten parents was especially valuable,” she continued.
“The Kindergarten teachers are great and I have complete confidence in them and the entire Primary team,” she said.
Orientation is an important component of transitioning to school life – for children and parents. The process is especially advantageous at Bishop Tyrrell as a result of the College’s comprehensive preschool readiness program.
Many Kindergarten students will have attended our onsite Preschool which allow pre-schoolers to interact with the Primary School teachers and participate in some Primary classes such as Music and Italian.
“Preschool has provided such a great start to my daughter’s schooling, she is so excited about starting Kindy next year. She already feels so confident which makes me confident as well,” said a parent.
We look forward to welcoming our 2017 Kindergarten students next year!
